Welcome: An Open Letter to Cobi Fans
An open letter to all Cobi fans:
So, having always been a brickhead and an avid collector of the other building block brands (which will remain nameless) I have to admit I was happy. I was happy with the sets and themes I knew, happy with the brands and their products, happy with building. I was enjoying the process of building and the resulting models and creativity. That said, though, there was an undertone to my fandom. Something wasn’t there. Something was missing. The problem was it didn’t know what it was.
For years, in my own imagination, I had created sets of things I loved but had never seen seen on any shelf. I’d fantasize about sets modeled after the greatest engineering marvels of the past and present. Some aviation, some nautical, some militaristic, some miscellanea. But they simply weren’t there. Or so I thought, until one day, amid a flurry of other searches, there it was: a Tiger tank! It was made of blocks, just like I had always dreamed! Not only that, but it was also incredibly well designed and nicely detailed. It had that perfect balance of specialty pieces and building-block shapes. Even the scale was appealing. Then I learned where it came from. A company that at the time I wasn’t familiar with, but was just about to learn was called COBI. Not only that, but they also made a bunch of other sets that were just as cool. And they made aircraft! After a while they even had huge scale battleships like the Bismarck! I was hooked.
And hooked to the point that here we are. Here’s my site, a shared family endeavor based on two of my life’s great passions: building blocks and military history. And, you know, it seemed at the time that I started, that this would be a lot of painful, tedious work. But it hasn’t been at all. I genuinely love the brand and its products so much that it’s been a pleasure, and the considerable time I’ve spent building buildCOBI.com have passed as if in seconds. It’s been quite an enjoyable ride so far, and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
This is where we invite you to come along. In the next few months the site will be fleshed out with product and resources unlike anything in North America, and for those of you who have the same curiosities and interests we do, we simply ask you to come with us on the journey as we catalogue, critique, contribute and co-exist with the brand that has brought all of us here. Guaranteed, you won’t be disappointed.
Sincerely,
Chad R. Snyder
